"As ye wished, I shall mentor ye. Maybe ye can stop this cicle of my apprentices to either die or vanish..."

Task One ~ Fashion? S'an Arcanist Privilege!
It is a known fact, that arcanists really are the only ones having any sence for beautiful clothings and especially hats. Provide our tailors with the needed materials.
  • Go to either Delucia or Yew and sheer enough sheep, that it lasts for five bolts of cloth
  • Seek out creatures with tough hides and provide us with 500 normal leather, OR 400 spined, OR 300 barbed
  • Provide a short report below
  • You may do this alone or with assistance

Task Two ~ The only threath of Kas
Kas Valentine is one of the most awesome arcanists there is in Cove. However... He has one big weakness. Horses!
  • Travel along the lands and seek out the four powerful known races of horses
  • Kill at least one of each race, known as an unicorn, a nightmare, a fire steed and a ki-rin
  • At least 2 other guardsman must attend
  • Provide a short report below
Note: Try to avoid taking squaded grenadiers or scouts with you for this. Those savagers can't see the threaths coming of these creatures and might hate you for killing them.

Task Three ~ On a hunt you go!
Only firing spells at an enemy gives an arcanist satisfaction. You shall lead a troop to Covetous and set them on fire!
  • Kill at least one lich and one elder gazer
  • Provide a short report below

I'm looking forward to see you in the rank of watchman soon!

*Hands Ilyana a signed report titled 'Fashion? S'an Arcanist Priviledge!'

Author: Tyrel

I have been asked by Ilyana Drachen to complete two objectives for this task:

1. Gather enough wool to create five bolts of cloth
2. Gather 500 normal leather, 400 spined, or 300 barbed.

"Not so hard!" I thought as I set off towards Yew with my backpack cleared and ready to shear! I spoke to the farmers and luckily they didnt mind me shaving a few sheep.

Over the fence i vaulted, and in no time at all those sheep were stumbling around, bald as their birth day, wondering what the heck just happened to them!!

Next up, looking at my list, uh, leather! Ok, only the best will do! I enlisted the aid of a civilian who accompanied me to Ice in order to slay a few measly White Wyrms. Uh, needless to say they gave us a bit more trouble than expected! Never the less, we slayed a fair few and i skinned them all!

A quick trip to the tailors, and i assembled my goods outside, 308 pieces of barbed leather, and 25 bolts of cloth. Also, just over 100 dragon scales seeing as they were there too.

Now, not being of super-human strength, i enlisted the aid of a pack horse to help take my goods back to the Barracks and deliver to Ilyana Drachen.

All in all, an interesting and easy task to start out my career as a Guardsman of Cove!

Signing off,

Tyrel

Only firing spells at an enemy gives an arcanist satisfaction. You shall lead a troop to Covetous, and set them on fire!

In attendance:
Leanne Melior, Junior Guardsman
Torrak Keres, Commander
Aleri Briggs, Junior Guardsman
Fritz Segur, Watchman
Syvirosy Jaquen, Guardsman Recruit
Gosakai, Guardsman Recruit
Tyrel, Guardsman Recruit

My second recruit task posted on the notice board, a hunt to Covetous! And not a bad turnout at all.

After discussing the tasks at hand (to kill an Older Elder Gazer and a bunch o' Liches) we headed out.

We arrived inside Covetous, and dodged a few flaming fireballs just inside the entrance whilst discussing battle tactics.

We continued on deeper into the dungeon, yet it seemed too easy with all the skilled Guardsman at hand, and so Aleri Briggs made a novel suggestion. Lets hunt our way through this dungeon...

...NAKED?!

Well, i wasn't sure i wanted to see that much of some of the others, so it was armour off only, kilts still on thankfully! Well, except Briggs who went all the way to loincloth.

We made short work of their Gazers and their Elder.

Fought our way through a horde of Skeletwirps Skeletons, and took a crack at the Lich's! As it happens, they were a bit much to handle armourless, which i found out the hard way.

So armour back on! (except for Junior Briggs) we smashed the Lich's back into grave dust.

Deeper in the dungeon we discovered a large library, which made for a great opportunity to stock up our own library at the Barracks! Oddly enough, there was also a portrait that looked oddly like the Commander.

In the deepest places, after disposing of a Rotting Corpse, we found a gruesome torture chamber, with an odd guillotine that chopped down and back up on its ow accord! Syvirosy made a suggestion... I dont think anyone gave it a go though.

Now to the good part! Oddly enough, the fight back out of the dungeon was more eventful than the one into it! We started off with Junior Melior's shoe laces coming undone...

Back to where the Gazers were, there were strange swirling beings of light that didnt seem to friendly!

And then back up top, as we could see the light of the dungeon entrance, we were blocked by a small group of Orcs demanding tribute!!! Junior Briggs (still naked) bravely volunteered to try to reason with them after claiming to be able to speak a bit of Orcish.

Er, needless to say, Briggs' reasoning skills didn't quite work and the Orcs got themselves into a frenzy! The jumped at our front line with madness in their eyes flailing their axes left and right, but the training and discipline of the Guardsman kicked in (looks like all those drills and boot camps pay off eh?) and we repelled the attack and then made an advance of our own. At the end of the battle the Orcs were defeated, and not one guardsman fell to their murderous attack.

Assembling outside, i then decided to keep the troops fitness levels up with a short race back to barracks in full armour (yes that meant Briggs too).

Junior Briggs decided to dash off before i even said go, and a mad dash to the Barracks ensued! Oddly enough, the same Junior Briggs was the last to return.

We stacked up the loot which amounted to 17,831 gold pieces, and a wheel of cheese, not quite sure where that came from, and all of the guardsman chose to donate their share of 2,800 gold pieces to the Army.

I then thanked the guardsman for their attendance, and dismissed them.

Kas Valentine is one of the most awesome arcanists there is in Cove. However... He has one big weakness. Horses!

In attendance:
Leanne Melior, Junior Guardsman
Cal'ain Cui'gnir, Watchman
Sergio Jarrett, Regular Scout
Tyrel, Guardsman Recruit

Third and final task, kill a Ki-Rin, Nightmare, Unicorn and Fire Steed!

The first step was to round up some willing and able volunteers! With some help from Ilyana, i managed to drag Leanne Melior and Cal'ain Cui'gnir outside the front of the Barracks.

The three of us then travelled to Fire, and after dispatching a few Efreet's and Hellhounds i managed to cross the Fire Steed off my list.

Then it was off to Malas! Around the Grimswind Ruins we managed to find a Unicorn (though i took no pleasure from slaying it)...

and a Ki-Rin!

We then searched the Corrupted Forest for signs of a Nightmare, however there were none to be found! We regrouped at the Barracks where we met up with Sergio Jarrett, and then headed out to Covetous (felucia) in search of a Nightmare. It didnt take long to find!

Lastly, we regrouped once again at the Barracks for a debrief. It was agreed all loot was to be donated to the army.

What marvellous work you guardsmen have done, I must admit I read of your recent exploits with a tear in my eye. I especially enjoyed poring over the sketch of your unicorn defeat. I mean honestly, not only is it a horse but through some cruel twist of fate it has evolved with a horn attached to it's head. This is doubtless an attempt by the species to get their own back on humanity, probably via the impaling of infants.

The nightmare and fire steed sketches produced similar feelings of jubilation, the use of the Arcane by horses cannot be tolerated in any way, shape or form. I mean anything could happen, one day you're out appreciating the natural beauty of Britannia and then suddenly a flaming steed cavorts onto the scene and sets it all aflame. No, this will not do. And what about the nightmares...? They are dubbed such with good reason, on many occasions I have personally witnessed them focusing their magic on harmless womenfolk. Horrible beasts.

As for the ki'rin, s'clearly an abomination, I mean just look at it. Who ever saw a horse with a hairstyle...?

Absolutely disgusting. I'm glad you succeeded in your quest. May you live long enough to stamp on at least another thousand foals.

You should all be ashamed of yourselves, this is tantamount to animal cruelty and serves only to besmirch the good name of Cove.

Expect to be hearing from Command shortly for severe disciplinary action.

Signed with an indiscreet illustration of a face giving a wink,
Senior Arcanist Kas Valentine.
