For the attention of Mercy....

I hope you're keeping well Mercy, I was very happy to discover you had completed all the duties asked of you in your progression towards the Covian Cap. You've come a long way and overcome many different trials to get to the point you're at now. It is with these "trials" in mind that I write to you now. During any Covian's progression through the ranks they must complete an assigned task (or selection of tasks) often refered to by Command as the "Watchman's Trial". Since I've been your mentor during the majority of your time with Cove it is my responsibility to decide the nature of your trials.

They are as follows;

First Trial: "Bolster the ranks"
* Visit the towns of New Haven and Britain to recruit two people into the Baronship. (COMPLETED)

Second Trial: "Lead the Arcanists"
* Lead a hunt into the City of Wind to clear both the tunnels and the park. (COMPLETED)

Third Trial: "Behold the Arcanists"
* Lead a training session in Cove field concentrating on the various tactics used by Arcanists in battle. (COMPLETED)

Conditions of Trials (OOC)

First Trial;
  • Take three guardsmen with you to the towns.
  • You must spend 15 minutes in each town.
  • In the absence of any willing recruits the exchange of a rune and a leaflet with two people will suffice.

Second Trial;
  • Take three fellow magic users with you to Wind.
  • Evidence of the tunnel clearence in the form of pictures must be provided.
  • Kill five acid elementals in the south of the park.
  • Do not spend too long in the tunnels, the liches and dragons can be nasty, 15 minutes should be enough.
  • If you cannot find the required amount of magic users you may take standard guardsmen and clear fifty solen infiltrators from the mountains surrounding Wind instead.

Third Trial;
  • The training session must last for 20 minutes.
  • The groups you set against each other must be pure (I.E melee against mages).
  • Healing tactics must be taught as well as offensive.
  • Four guardsmen must attend your training session with at least two magic users (not including yourself).

Other
  • Reports must be completed by your own hand
  • Reports must be posted in this thread.

If you have any concerns please do not hesitate to write to me personally.

I trust completely in your ability to fulfill these tasks and acquire the rank of Junior Guardsman. I will be watching proudly as you receive your cap from the Baron.

Signed very carefully in very pretty handwriting,
Regular Guardsman Kas Valentine.

Task Two

Patrol to Wind

It seemed to take a long time for everyone to get started and the area outside the Barracks had become like Britain bank with the amount of people who decided to decend on us as we were preparing to depart.

Recruit Dah'Han opened a portal to Wind and we all hurried through, his rune was marked near the enterance of the City which was a very quiet area.  I set about organising the Guardsmen as Sunset and Axiana got themselves ready.  I decided upon a strategy of splitting the Guardsmen into two groups, one would stay with the two citizens and the other would patrol the valley maze with me.  Before setting out I made sure they knew what to expect from the ants and the dangers of their acidic blood.

It wasn't long before we walked into an ant around one of the many twists and turns of that valley.  Shortly after slaying the beast we heard a scream and hurried back to the others, one of those mystical ore elementals had appeared before the two miners to protect the mountainside and had struck Miss Sunset with a terrible blow.  Thankfully the Guardsmen I had left behind as their escort had beaten the elemental back and all was well by the time we reached them.

Confident that the Citizens were well protected we carried on with our patrol, I decided we would kill 25 ants and then swap with the other group also I would make a sketch of each tenth ant we killed.  Jack Sinist and Recruit Darenenth was in my first group, with two powerful Arcanists we made short work of the ants.

So much so that Darenenth complained of not being able to get a hit in, so we allowed him to try taking one of the beasts down, with keeping the ant and bay and him healed Daren managed to kill the ant.  Though the recruit has much to learn about weaponary he is a very keen hunter and was full of enthusiasm throughout the patrol.  With the first twenty five ants killed we headed back to the others and swapped groups.

This time I led Recruits Dimman, Moran and Dah'Han and the speed with which this group dispatched the ants was fantastic.  With recruits like these we can see a very secure future for the army.

We managed to kill more than the required fifty ants, which when recieving my trial I was very worried we wouldn't manage, before finally meeting back up with the citizens who's packhorses pouches were laden with ore and ingots.

Opening a portal back to the Barracks I thanked everyone for attending the patrol and recieved a big thankyou from Sunset for giving them an escort.  I was very pleased that we had managed to complete two goals at the same time a perfect joint effort for the Citizens and Guardsmen of Cove

Task One

Recruitment trip to Britain and New Haven

Guards attending -

Sergeant Dragoon Hoagie
Regular Guardsman John Dell
Recruit Moran Altheim

After lining up at the baracks we first headed off to Britain to start our recruitment, I decided to give each person a task.  John Dell and Hoagie were to start handing out leaflets, Moran and I were to set up some banners.

As the recruit had not placed any banners before I set about teaching him how a basic banner is made, then I passed him the materials to make his own banners.

Joining up with Hoagie I found him talking to someone named Belakor who seemed quite interested in Cove, so we handed him a rune and a leaflet.  After this we headed on to New Haven.

Not far into haven we were stopped by a fellow with all manner of strange questions, so we passed him a leaflet and rune also.  Then I opened a gate to Cove for him to see our town.

Further on into the town I split everyone up again, Moran laid down two more banners in the town whilst John was keen to head off to talk with someone.  The man was also happy to hear about Cove and said he would certainly consider joining but needed some time to be ready, so again we handed him a run and a leaflet.

In all we had a very good recruitment trip and managed to complet the target set.

Amount of runes and books needed to hand out = 2
Actually amount of runes and books handed out = 3

Target met by +1.

(ooc I didn't manage to get screenies of the others and accidently deleted one screenie)

Dear Mercy,

I just had to write and commend your progress with the tasks completed for your trial so far. I personally visited the mountain path outside Wind and was happy to discover local citizens mining in almost complete safety, free from the threat of the solen. S'unfortunate that you couldn't find enough Arcanists at the time but nevertheless you did a wonderful job.

I was just as happy to learn of your success in Britain and Haven, truly the word of the Baronship spreads far and wide. With any luck the people you spoke to will read through their leaflets and decide that Cove is the place for them. Heck if we're really really lucky they may even bring some friends along to bolster the ranks even further.

Keep up the superior leadership, your cap is well within reach !

TASK THREE

Battle training with the Arcanists

Guards attending -

Senior Guardsman Demarian Tel'var
Senior Guardsman Tiberius
Regular Guardsman Kas Valentine
Junior Guardsman Delcarakdur
Watchman Jakob D'Stoke
Recruit Belakor
Recruit Douglas Kione
Senior Guardsman Erik Arkay (arrived later)

After our very successful recruitment trip to Britain for Kerri's trial I decided to take the initiative and run a training for my trial.  I dismissed those who had to get some rest and led the others to the field in the town.

I started out by explaining what we were going to do and a little about the future of the Aracanists that is currently being proposed by the church.

I then split the group into two and explained that when fighting with Arcanists in your group you need to protect them as much as anyone else as they are often the first target.

Following this it was time for the defending of a building with Kas and I attacking with two guardsmen.  Then I changed the groups by putting the better archers in the building.

Archers are very good at defending buildings and we had a hard time fighting against them.  I noted that this is also our main foe's tactic and we need to work on a strategy to route out archers in this situation.

After our training I began to explain some basic battle tactics to the recruits with the older guardsmen putting in their words of wisdom as well.  I concentrated on how best to fight when the battle turns into running through forests as it often does.  How not to be caught up chasing a foe and teamwork tactics.

After the training I allowed everyone to let off some steam with a last man standing.  Before dismissing them all.

Watchman Mercy.

Dear Mercy,

I was pleased to see your leadership abilities for myself at the training session earlier today, you covered all the bases very nicely. I certainly learned a thing or two from our staged battles so I'm certain the recruits will have too. It is unfortunate that you couldn't garner more Arcanists for some of your duties but that can't be helped.

In conclusion....

Hoh !

You did it !

I'm very proud of you and hell, Junior cap here we come.
